Islamic Centre of Lawrence is the only one masque in Lawrence, Kansas where many moslems gather and meet each other. In Islamic Centre, we can hear voice “Azan”- call to prayer that we can not hear in any other place. We can hear Azan five times every day. Islamic centre is located at Naismith Dr.Street of Lawrence, it is near from my dormitory, Margareth Hashinger. The Islamic centre also near with Swimming pool and Gymnastic place. Someone goes to Islamic Centre for praying together actually. We can find more than thousand Moslems around Lawrence go to Islamic Centre for praying Friday on Friday about at 01.00 pm. They will praying together, because it is one of the opportunity as a Moslem. The room for men is downstair and for women is up-stair, so they have different room. There is also a meeting room for many activities that doing in Islamic Centre, such as meeting, learning, watching until cooking. Actually, Islamic Centre will be busy if Ramadhan comes (one of the month in Arabic months that every moslem will be fasting). Usually, I’m as a moslem woman, just come there for praying magrib and I’m getting excited when I hear Azan (call for praying), so calm down for everyone who hear it. The place is not too big, but it’s clean and enough for being a place to pray and other activity. Also in the front of Islamic Center, it’s clean and neat. Everything in Islamic Centre looks interesting, especially for me.

I have never been to the Islamic Center in Lawrence, but I have driven and walked past it many times. I think it has a good location for the students because it is so close to campus. I agree with you that it is a clean and neat building, and I think that the sign out front is beautiful. I'm sure many Americans find that sign interesting since the words are written in Arabic. I wonder if the "Azan" is only broadcast inside the building or if you can hear it from the street also? If I walked by and heard the "Azan", I would feel like I was in a different country!
